At the Möhnesee campsite, east of Dortmund, a STRATE pumping station from 1977 was replaced in March 2022. The "old" pumping station had been in use for 45 years, which emphasises the special STRATE product features of longevity and sustainability.
The Möhne Dam on Lake Möhne is designated as a European bird sanctuary in the EU's Natura 2000 protected area system due to its great importance as a resting and wintering place for 4,000 to 6,000 waterfowl.
The municipality is named after the Möhne reservoir, which was built between 1908 and 1912. This is an important destination for tourism and remains one of the most important economic factors in the municipality to this day.
